Old Friends

Bill and Sam, two elderly friends, met in the park every day to feed the pigeons, watch the squirrels and discuss world problems.

One day Bill didn't show up. Sam didn't think much about it and figured maybe he had a cold or something.

But after Bill hadn't shown up for a week or so, Sam really got worried. However, since the only time they ever got together was at the park, Sam didn't know where Bill lived, so he was unable to find out what had happened to him.

A month had passed, and Sam figured he had seen the last of Bill, but one day, Sam approached the park and -- lo and behold! --there sat Bill! Sam was very excited and happy to see him and told him so. Then he said, 'For crying out loud Bill, what in the world happened to you?'

Bill replied, 'I have been in jail.'

'Jail?' cried Sam. 'What in the world for?'

'Well,' Bill said, 'you know Sue, that cute little blonde
waitress at the coffee shop where I sometime go?'

'Yeah,' said Sam, 'I remember her. What about her?'

'Well, one day she filed rape charges against me; and, at 89 years old, I was so proud that when I got into court, I pled 'guilty' and the judge gave me 30 days for perjury.'

Lounging at the movies: The Funny and Not So Funny

Havoc, 2005: Anne Hathaway and other hotties.
A story of hip Hop gangsta' wannabe's from well off families who get paths crossed with real gangster. This movie was bit disturbing. To watch kids with everything handed to them throw it away because they watch to many music videos. You do get to see Ann Hathaway topless on a couple occasions but hardly worth suffering through this stupidity.

Alpha Dog, 2006: Justin Timberlake, Bruce Willis and the guy from Repo Man.
Based on a true story this gritty film aggravated us for the same reason as Havoc. Rich kids throwing it all away with added stress of the stupid leading the more stupid. This film left us feeling dirty and near the end every dicision made by the characters was more and more unbelievable.

Transformers, 2007: Shia LaBeouf (Disturbia), Megan Fox (Meeow) and Josh Duhamel (If I were I would).
Now this is more like it. A smokin' hot love interest and out of the pan, into the fire action. If you lived in the 80's and 90's you are probably familiar with the story but get ready ready for new millennium special effects. Waiting for a sequel!

The Future We Will Create: Inside the World of TED, 2007: All sorts of super smart and creative thinking people.
Documentary of TED, a meeting of the minds that you will happy to know exists once you watch the film. Recommended for everybody.

The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines, 2006: Noah Wyle et al.
Kids movie that looked like an Indiana Jones style adventure movie. It was not. Lots of talk, little action. Perfect film if you are an easily scared 6 year old. Maybe that's the target audience, don't know.

Meet the Robinsons, 2007: Kids film worth watching. Not sure what it was based on but found it very entertaining with an interesting plot and warm overall message.

Thr3e: Don't waste your time.

Knocked Up, 2007: Seth rogen, Katherine Heigel, Paul Rudd and others. Highly recommended film about a guy trying to take responsibility for a one night stand that ended in pregnancy. We found this film super funny on many levels. From the simple pleasures of their own interaction to eating mushrooms in Vegas we enjoyed it all. Possibly a favorite for 2007.

Next, 2007: Nicolas Cage, Jessica Biel, Julianne More and others. We can hardly pass up a film with Jessica Biel for obvious reasons. This film is the story of a guy with a talent. he can see the future but only minutes before it happens. The Gov't finds out and decides he is the next anti terrorism tool. This doesn't sit well with Cage but things are not what they seem. Good action and science fiction.

Grindhouse: Death Proof, 2007: What were they thinking, this sucked. It may be Death Proof but not SUCK PROOF. Kurt Russels talent was wasted here. Terintino needs a lifestyle change or something. Don't waste your time.

Cocaine Cowboys, 2006: The true story that inspired Scareface and Miami Vice. You will watch in disbelief, the story of how quickly the cocaine epidemic hit the U.S. and easily they got away with it. The documentary interviews individuals responsible for transporting huge amounts of cocaine for crazy amounts of money. The story finishes with how it effected (positively and negatively) the Florida and American economy and ending the lives of many of the participants.

Lounge Eats: Stuffing, just in time for Thanksgiving!

Stuffing, it is easy, tasty and one thing to do with old bread.

What to do with old bread? If I were about 20 or 30 years older I would take my old bread and go down to the park and feed it to pigeons.

As you know we spend a considerable amount of energy in The B.K. Lounge Laboratory finding new and better ways to deal with such problems as old bread.

Our staff of talented experts have found that sometimes it is better to look at history to find the path to our future solutions.

What we found is STUFFING. That is what people did with old bread before we had parks. And if having a new purpose for old bread is not enough, stuffing is really easy to make.

What you need is about 8 cups of old bread cut into 1/2 inch or smaller cubes. About a loaf of bread.

We actually did this before the bread was really old. And the difference between really old and old is something only you can gauge.

But anyway, I took about a loaf of bread that had seen better days and cut it into small cubes. To speed things up in the laboratory we put the bread on a cookie sheet and baked it at 225 degrees, until really dry, about 40 minutes. It was like old bread magic or old bread time travel.

While the bread is drying out you need to prepare:

1/2 cup butter - no preparation here, just get it out
1 cup finely chopped celery
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1-1/2 teaspoons of thyme
a fat pinch of garlic powder

a pinch of sage if you want
about a cup of chicken broth or water if you're lame.
salt and pepper at hand

In a small saucepan sauté the celery, onion, thyme, garlic powder and sage in butter. Keep this up until onion is clear but not brown. Just before the onions are done add 1/8 teaspoon (a pinch) of salt and about twice that amount of ground pepper.

When the bread is dry and the onion is clear it is time, to kill again, just kidding. It is time to put the bread into a bowl and lightly toss it while adding the onion mixture and then the chicken stock.

TaDa! or is it tioda! any way there it is, stuffing.

Sometimes this is referred to as dressing. But seeing that we do not put this on our chicken or turkey but we stuff it up it's you know what. We at The B.K. Lounge will refer to it as stuffing. You should be able to stuff an 8 or 10 lb. bird.
